Physically-challenged boy gets GPA-5

Our correspondent, Panchagarh

Physically challenged Kamol Chandra Roy, a struggling student of Gobindho Ideal Secondary School in Sonaher union under Debiganj upazila in the district, who braved disability and poverty to achieve GPA-5 from science group in this year’s SSC examination under Dinajpur Education Board.

Kamol is a fingerless boy in both hands by birth.

However, his dauntless attitude and constant endeavour has enabled him to capture outstanding results in the SSC examinations. The success story of Kamol is now a matter of discussion for many. Interested people and journalists from the district headquarters visited his house at a remote village Sonaher Shahapara in Sonaher union under Debiganj upazila of the district.

Kamol, son of late Soronarthi Roy, also obtained scholarships in primary level and Junior Secondary Certificate (JSC) examination. “I have a dream to be a doctor and for this I have run through the potholed path of my life, but now it has become uncertain due to my family’ poverty,” Kamol lamented while talking to this correspondent. Kamol’s mother Lili Rani, a domestic help, requested the affluent and generous people of the society to come forward with financial assistance for her meritorious son’s higher education.

Meanwhile in Bogura, fighting great odds and overcoming seemingly insufferable obstacles, an SSC examinee secured a GPA of 3.61 in his exams writing with his feet as he has been without his arms since birth, reports UNB. Md Omar Faruk Sumon, son of Mujibur Rahman of Uttar Shahpara in Sherpur municipality area, appeared in his SSC exams from Sherpur DJ High School this year. He wants to go for higher education and to become a high government officer.

During visit on Monday, this correspondent found Sumon's father Mujibur who is a decorator and his mother who is a housewife. He has two brothers and two sisters. Among them, Sumon is the youngest one. The two sisters got married off.

One of his brothers runs a small business in the village. His father has to pay the cost of study with great difficulty.

While talking to UNB, Sumon said, "I am very happy after hearing my result in SSC examination. I am very much interested in study from childhood. My parents could not stop my study although passing hard days in poverty."
