Over 120,000 children of 26 upazilas of three districts in Chattogram Hill Tracks (CHT) will be brought under pre-primary education to prepare them for primary education, reports BSS.
"The children living in 5,000 remote localities under the 26 upazilas of CHT will be given pre-primary education to ensure their enrollment for primary education," an official of CHT affairs ministry told the news agency.
Later, a number of those children would be given technical and stipend-based education alongside the regular curriculum, he added.
To this end, the government has launched "Sustainable Social Services for CHT" project involving Tk 417 crore which is scheduled to be implemented by June, 2021, said the official, who is familiar with the project.
The project will cover 5,000 localities of 26 upazilas in Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban districts of CHT.
Apart from the pre-primary education, locality based network will be established in the remote areas to ensure the availability of basic social services to the children and their families.
Moreover, awareness building campaigns will be run among 206,000 families under the project to decrease the malnutrition of children, girls and women as well as strengthen community efficiency.
The main activities of the project are to construct 1,025 locality centers, run maintenance work in 4,000 locality centers and three training centers.
Besides, health services, nutrition, water, sewerage and hygiene maintenance along with education activities will be carried over under the project.
The government has been providing basic social services to the backward people of the CHT under Chattogram Development Board (CDB) since 1980, and the activities have been accelerated after the CHT Peace Accord in 1997.
Besides, Unicef is also continuing its cooperation for the under privileged CHT people.
