Newborn’s body found in Barguna hospital toilet
Barguna: The body of a newborn was recovered from a toilet of Barguna General Hospital on Thursday morning, reports UNB.
Hospital superintendent Dr Md Sohrab Uddin said cleaner Hasina Begum of the hospital spotted the body lying on the floor of a female toilet around 10 am while cleaning it.
Hasina said, “I was completely shocked seeing the newborn’s body and immediately informed the hospital authorities about it.”
Police recovered the body and sent it to morgue for autopsy, said Assistant Police Superintendent of Barguna Md Nazmul Islam.
2 prisoners ‘tortured’ for refusing to massage jailer’s body
Nilphamari: Twenty people were injured in a chaos over torturing two prisoners at the district jail allegedly at the order to the jail super on Thursday, reports UNB.
Wishing anonymity, a habildar of the jail said the jailer asked the two prisoners—Md Sumon, who was serving a jail term in a goat stealing case, and Taslim, who was serving imprisonment in a case filed over a clash—to massage his body at noon.
However, they refused to abide by the order.
Being angered at the refusal, the jailer ordered other prisoners to beat the duo.
A clash erupted between the prisoners at that time, leaving at least 18 others, including three security guards of the jail, injured.
Sumon was taken to Nilphamari General Hospital while Taslim to Jail Hospital.
Later, Sumon was shifted to the jail again in the evening.
The jailer did not receive the phone when UNB correspondent tried to reach him for his version over the incident.
Man hacked dead in C’nawabganj

A trader was hacked to death by some miscreants at Hausenagar in Shibganj upazila early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Jahangir Ali, 55, an egg trader and son of Bisharad Ali of the area.
Iqbal Hossain, additional superintendent of Chapainawabganj Police, said a group of miscreants waylaid Jahangir on his way home and slaughtered him.
On information, police recovered the body in the morning and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
4 ‘criminals’ held with arms
Mymensingh: Police in a drive arrested four suspected criminals along with arms at Charkalibari Moylakanda in Sadar upazila on Thursday, reports UNB.
The arrestees were identified as Mostafizur Rahman, 30, Saifur Rahman, 27, and Sadiqur Rahman, 25,- sons of Anisur Rahman of Moylakanda, and Hridoy Mia, son of Suruj Ali.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive at the house of Anisur and arrested them along with a firearms, two bullets and huge local weapons in the afternoon, said Khandaker Shaker Hossain, inspector of Kotawali Police Station.
They were taken into police custody, said police.
3 held with 20,000 yaba tablets
Satkhira: Detectives in a drive arrested three suspected drug peddlers from a courier service office in the district town early yesterday, reports UNB.
The arrestees are Abdus Sattar, son of Alim Sardar ofAlipur village, Nazrul Islam, son of Askar Ali Gazi of Laxmidari village and Sagar of Kulati village in Sadar upazila.
Sajjadur Rahman, superintendent of Satkhira Police, at a press briefing said being tipped off that a gang of smugglers was bringing yaba from Chittagong via Courier Service, a team of DB police led by additional superintendent (Sadar Circle) Merina Akhter raided ‘Janani Enterprise’ courier service and seized a plastic sack containing yaba tablets and arrested Abdus Sattar.
Following his information, the team arrested two other yaba traders.
