Beximco Dhaka Masters conceded a four-run defeat to Air Asia Rajshahi Masters in their second match of the Walton Masters Cricket Carnival yesterday at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar.
Rajshahi’s victory, their second in a row, raised the prospect of making the final while Dhaka’s defeat made their rest of the matches crucial for them.
Khaled Mashud Pilot-led Rajshahi scored 114 for seven in the 100-ball tournament in which the last over, called as master over consisted of 10- balls. Captain Pilot and Wasel Uddin were the joint-highest scorer with 28 runs. Anisur Rahman made 25 while Niamur Rashid Rahul scored 25 off 10 with two sixes.
Dhaka’s Sujon Chowdhury picked up three wickets for 24 runs in three overs while Faisal Hossain Decense who delivered the master over ended with two for 34 in 4.4 overs.
In pursuit of 115 runs, Dhaka were restricted to 110 for eight with Rashidul Haque Sumon making highest 20. Decense and Sajal Chowdhury scored an identical 15 runs.
Mushfiqur Rahman Babu claimed three while Ehsanul Haque Sejan took two.
“Every game became tougher which is the beauty of the tournament,” said Dhaka captain Khaled Mahmud Sujon, also the one of the organisers of the tournament.
“Our plan is to expand the tournament, giving it a multi-national tournament. In the next year, we have the plan to call a team from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. This will make the tournament more intriguing.”
