Emboldened by their comprehensive 90-run win over North West Women’s team in the lone warm-up game, Bangladesh women’s team will take on South African women’s team in the first of the five-match ODI today at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom.
The Bangladesh eves just won two matches out of 12 against South Africa but never won a series. They are determined this time around to break the jinx, knowing that it would be a vastly tougher task to beat South Africa that too at their own backyard.
However if the result of the practice match is anything to go by, Bangladesh are in good shape. They piled up a gigantic 270 for two in the lone warm-up game with captain Rumana Ahmed leading from the front. Rumana hit an unbeaten 136 and was aptly supported by Farzana Hoque Pinky who also scored 103 not out.
Later leg-spinner Fahima Khatun then claimed five for eight to wrap up North West’s innings for 180. Even though practice match’s result matters little, Bangladesh women’s are oozing with confidence, said the team management.
The women’s team will play their rest of the four matches on May 6, 9, 11 and 14 before playing a three-match T20 series, slated to be held on May 17, 19 and 20.
