UP chairman shot dead in Narsingdi

A union parishad chairman was gunned down by miscreants at Arkanda village in Raipura upazila yesterday afternoon, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Md Sirajul Haque, 70, chairman of Banshbari union parishad in the upazila. Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Raipura Police Station, said a group of miscreants swooped on Sirajul and opened fire on him around 1:30pm while he was returning from the upazila headquarters riding his bicycle, leaving him critically injured. The UP chairman was taken to the district hospital where doctors declared him dead around 3:15pm, he said.
