Students of Jagannath University have been demonstrating by boycotting their classes and examinations for the second consecutive day protesting at the removal of an English department associate professor Nasir Uddin Ahmed on charge of plagiarism in his research work.
The protesters locked the main gate of the university at about 9am demanding immediate withdrawal of the decision.
Witnesses said that no class and examination of the university was held due to the students' strike.
The students vowed to continue the movement until their demand is met.
Meanwhile, a large number of police had been deployed in front of the main gate of the university.
On April 26, the Jagannath University syndicate terminated Nasir after the report of an investigation committee accusing him of plagiarism in his writing 'Motherhood in the poems of Sylvia Plath'.
Students claimed that the teacher was framed by the university authorities as the teacher had extended his support for the students’ agitation for reform in quota system for public jobs.
