Music Buzz observes Int’l Jazz Day at American Centre

Music Buzz, a biweekly musical programme of American Centre hosted a jazz programme to observe International Jazz Day 2018 on April 30 at the American Center library at Baridhara in the capital. The International Jazz Day is celebrated around the world each year on April 30. The day highlights the power of jazz as a force for freedom and creativity which promotes intercultural dialogue through respect and understanding, and unites people from all corners of the globe.

Noted musicians from different bands,  including Labu Rahman (Feedback), Tanveer, Yameen Khan and Imran Rabbani (Blue’s Brother) and others came together and performed a number of jazz music in the programme.

Alongside, they gave a brief introduction in which they talked about jazz, the purpose of the event and answered audiences’ queries in between their performances.

Established in partnership with the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, the International Jazz Day was adopted by the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Member Nations on the proposal of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock. The day is recognized on the official calendars of both UNESCO and the United Nations. Besides, the day is celebrated in over 190 countries on all seven continents.

Each year, schools, universities, libraries, jazz clubs, performing arts centers, artists and arts organizations of all disciplines around the world pay tribute to jazz through thousands of performances, learning programmes and community service initiatives.

To note, over the last four years, the celebrations of the International Jazz Day in Bangladesh have gained international recognition and were acknowledged by UNESCO on their official jazz day website as well.
