Veteran actor to celebrate birthday today

This week is certainly an auspicious one for veteran actor-director Abul Hayat, as he will make his return to the theatre stage after a decade. On a very interesting note, he will be enacting the same role that he played ten years ago in the play titled ‘Dewan Gazir’ Kissa’, to be held at the main auditorium at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), directed by Asaduzzaman Noor, who adapted the play from a story by late German poet-playwright-theatre director Bertold Brecht.
Produced by Nagorik Natya Sampradaya, Abul Hayat will play the role of a character named Makhon. The play was staged ten years ago at the auditorium of Mohila Samiti in the capital’s Baily Road. About performing in the same play as the same character, Abul Hayat expressed his views, “The fact that I am returning to the stage after so long, the excitement and exuberance that I am experiencing, it is quite difficult to put in words. This is certainly a different kind of feeling and I am hopeful that maybe the golden days of theatre will be relived.”
About the aforementioned auspicious week, besides making his return to the stage after a decade, today he will turn 72. Today is also the birthday of his niece Shrisha. On the occasion of his birthday, Abul Hayat will be appearing in live shows in Ekattor TV, RTV and Channel i, where he will speak to his adoring fans and well wishers. The rest of the time will be devoted to his family.
To note, Abul Hayat will direct two tele-dramas for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. Tomorrow he will begin the work for the tele-dramas ‘Antasroth’, written by Rabeya Khatun, and ‘Agomon’, written by him. Shahed and Sagata will appear in both the tele-dramas.
‘Antasroth’ will be aired on Channel i and ‘Agomon’ will be aired on a satellite TV.
