The Election Commission (EC) is scheduled to begin the data collection for updating the voter list of 2015-2016 of 138 upazilas and thanas including the capital from today.
The commission has already completed the data collection of 376 upazilas, beginning from July 25.
EC sources said the data collection for the 138 upazilas/thanas including Dhaka Mahanagar will be completed on September 22.
However, the registration with photographs will begin on September 30 and continue till October 20.
The enumerators will go door to door to collect particulars of all citizens who were born on January 1, 2000 or before.
The commission will collect information of all citizens from age 15 to 17 for the first time. The registration will continue till February 10, 2016. The registration will continue even in the general or weekly holidays except Eid-ul-Azha vacation or special holidays.
With 2.5% growth in the country’s existing 9.62 crore voters, the Election Commission (EC) estimates that some 24 lakh fresh voters will emerge in 2016, and 48 lakh more in 2017 and 2018 following the data collection.
Some 61,000 people including 50,000 enumerators and 10,000 supervisors are needed for the three-phase data collection work under 5,400 voter registration centres in 4650 union parishads, 320 municipalities, 12 cantonment boards and 439 wards of 11 city corporations across the country.
