Construction of a diabetic hospital in Nilphamari is progressing and it is expected to be completed shortly. Deowan Kamal Ahmed, mayor of Nilphamari municipality, said a large number of the diabetes patients of the greater Rangpur district will get the treatment at the hospital, which is being established at a cost of Tk16,23,60,322. Building on one acre of land the hospital will offer services to hundreds of diabetic patients, who normally go to Dhaka for treatment, which is expensive and time consuming.
“It is very difficult for the poor people to go to Dhaka for treatment, said Deowan Kamal, who is also the president of district Awami League. Many said more than 50 percent of diabetic patients of this zone cannot take proper
treatment for want of a specialised hospital. Several doctors, who are working at upazila health complexes in Nilphamari district, said the number of diabetic patients is increasing in the area. They have expressed their optimism that it will come as a great relief for the people as they will be able to take treatment at a nearby specialised hospital. Both the poor and wealthy people will get benefit, they hope.
