Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) disbursed the unpaid payment of the last two editions of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) worth Tk. 2.50 crore amongst the 65-enlisted players yesterday. The bulk of unpaid and half-paid players of the six franchisees of the BPL barring Rangpur Riders were enlisted for the disbursement. The players however expressed their satisfaction after receiving the long over dues.
“We had no expectation to get the money. But I feel better to receive the cheque,” Enamul Haque Junior said in his reaction. “We started believing to get the money once CWAB and board reached a solution,” said Alok Kapali. It is known that the owner of Rangpur Riders Mustafa Rafiqul Islam requested the board that he himself will give the dues amongst his team’s players.
“Now we are relieved. It’s a great relief from a great responsibility,” BPL governing council chairman Afzalur Rahman Sinha said, heaving a huge sigh of relief.
“By giving the unpaid amount, all problems have been resolved and there are no dues for the first two editions,” he added.   “Definitely, we felt very bad (not to give players to their long over dues). Actually we don’t want to see them ‘deprived’. As per the decision, we told you all that we will distribute dues amongst the players by Sunday,” Sinha said.
After having a series of talks and discussion with the players, franchisees, Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) and the governing council, BCB cricket operation chairman Naimur Rahman Durjoy, who was given responsibility to settle down the issue of the unpaid payment of the players with talking to all stakeholders, has taken a decision to give the base price to which the players complied.
“We gave the responsibility to Durjoy to settle the unpaid players’ payment issue. He several time held talks and discussion with all the stakeholders including players, franchisees, Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) and the governing council. Thereafter, he prepared a list and amount of money. We’ve just disbursed the mentioned money amongst the players,” Sinha informed.  “We have handed over the cheque to Mushfiqur, Mashrafe and Tamim as symbol to initiate the procedures as they are the senior members,” he added.
About foreign players, the governing council chairman said that they have paid all the foreign players’ payment. “We’ve already provided the dues to foreign players. But one or two may still remain unpaid. However we’ll also clear those,” he replied in a query. “Umpires’ had a contract with Game On Management. We don’t know what type of contract was between them. But we got some complaint about umpire’s payment. The board will decide the matter.”
CWAB general secretary Debabrata Paul said that there left no complication about players’ long over dues as the settlement of the payment has been resolved through amicable discussion with all the stakeholders. “Durjoy bhai finalised the payment talking with all us. And then he initiated the procedures. In this regard, we have no complaint about players’ payment,” Debabrata Paul said.
Before paying the players, the BCB directors, involved into the process of clearing the unpaid amount, had a brief meeting among themselves. Along with Sinha, member secretary of BPL governing council IH Mallick, media committee chairman Jalal Younus, cricket operations chairman Naimur Rahman Durjoy, game development chairman Khaled Mahmud Sujon, tournament committee chairman Akram Khan and CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury were present.
A string of players including Mushfiqur Rahim, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal Soumya Sarker, Liton Kumar Das, Nasir Hossain, Mominul Haque, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Sabbir Rahman Rumman, Jubair Hossain Likhon, Taskin then entered into the board meeting room where they discussed with the directors.
