Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) has signed a group insurance policy agreement with Sunlife Insurance Company yesterday, reports UNB. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed was present at the agreement signing ceremony as the chief guest. Chaired by DRU President Shakhawat Hossain Badsha, the programme was attended, among others, by Sunlife Insurance’s CEO M Sulaiman Hossain and DRU General Secretary Elias Hossain. DRU President handed over a check of Tk 12, 29, 602 to the Commerce Minister as the first premium of the insurance under the agreement. Speaking on the occasion Tofail Ahmed said it is a great initiative taken by journalist community to provide financial support to journalists who work constantly under immense pressure and risk. Under the group insurance, some 1,400 journalists, who are the members of DRU, will get Tk 2 lakh each in case of natural death, Tk 4 lakh in case accidental death, Tk 1.5 lakh for permanent disability, Tk 50 thousands for partial disability and Tk 75 thousands if affected by 14 specific diseases.
