NBR finds 5.38 lakh new taxpayers

National Board of Revenue (NBR) has brought 5.38 lakh fresh taxpayers under the tax net during July-April period of fiscal 2017-18, reports BSS.

The NBR planned to find 5.26 lakh new income taxpayers in the current fiscal year (FY18). But the revenue authorities have been able to fulfill its target in 10 months, two month ahead of ending the FY18.

"We planned to find 5.26 lakh new taxpayers in FY19 but the NBR has found 5 lakh 38 thousand and 891 news taxpayers in 10 months, two months before the closing of the fiscal year FY18," said NBR member (Tax Survey and Inspection) Dr Mahbubur Rahman.

Tax survey and inspection wing of the NBR will continue its hunt for new taxpayers in the next two months of the current fiscal, he told the news agency.

"We'll not stop our efforts to hunt for new taxpayers just because of achieving the target, rather we've decided to intensify our drive to find new taxpayers to boost collection of revenue.
