Man killed in road accident
A man was killed in a road accident near Jatrabari crossing in the capital yesterday morning. The deceased was Abul Kalam, 45. Police, quoting witnesses, said Kalam was trying to get into a bus on the east side of Shahid Faruk Road near Jatrabari crossing around 8:30 am. Suddenly, another bus came to the spot and he got squeezed in between the two buses, said Sup-inspector Ranjit of Jatrabari police station. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead around 9am. The body was kept at DMCH morgue for an autopsy. Jatrabari thana police detained two buses in this connection.
Schoolgirl ‘commits suicide’
A schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling in Morkun area of Tongi in Gazipur city yesterday. The deceased was Laboni Akter, 16, daughter of Abul Kalam of the area. She was a student of class X of Morkun High School in Tongi. Sub-inspector of Tongi police station Abdul Malek Khosru said Laboni committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling using a scarf at her room yesterday morning. . Family members said Laboni had an affair with a youth Rana of the area. They suspected that she might have committed suicide over the relationship.
Youth held with yaba tablets
Rapid Action Batalian (RAB-1) arressted a youth with 1950 yaba tablets from a restaurant in College Gate area of Tongi in Gazipur city on Saturday evening. The arresstee was Gani Miah, 29. RAB-1 sources said on a secret information, a team, led by assistant police super Azmila Nasrin Chowdhury, conducted a drive at new Kolmilota restaurant of Badar Mansion in College Gate area of Tongi and detained Gani with 1950 yaba tablets. Officer in charge of Tongi police station Mohammed Ali said Gani was handed over to police yesterday morning. A case was filed in this connection with Tongi police station.
30 cattle traders fall sick
Around 30 cattle businessmen become sick as they fell prey to dope party at Bypass Cattle Market under Shah Mukhdum Police Station in Rajshahi yesterday. Six of the sick people, Juj Mian, 40, Kalu, 30, Belal Hossain, 30, Iqbal, 48, Khairul Alam, 20, and Abdur Rashid, 35, were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as their health condition deteriorated. Quoting the locals Abdur Rouf, Officer-in-Charge of Shahmukhdum police station, said they took breakfast at a restaurant in the market area and within a short time fell sick. Police are investigating the matter to bring the persons, who are involved in the misdeed, as possible, he added.
