Bangladesh will lock horns with their central Asian opponent, Turkmenistan in the summit clash of the Bangabandhu Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship 2018 at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium (SSIS) today.

State-owned Bangladesh Television along with private satellite television channel Gazi TV will live telecast the final match, which will start at 3pm.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will distribute prizes as chief guest. Adviser to Prime Minister  for Private Sector Development  Affairs Salman F Rahman and state minister for youth and sports Biren Sikder will be present as special guests.

Both Bangladesh and Turkmenistan appeared in the final with an all-win record. So the two teams seek to win the title keeping their record intact.

The spikers of Bangladesh and Turkmenistan held their pre-match day practice sessions, in where they honed their skills, techniques and tactics before getting down for the final showdown.

Under the supervision of the coach Ali Pour Aroji Bangladesh did their two and half-an-hour practice session after Turkmenistan at the same SSIS ground.

Coach Ali Aroji said that winning in the final against better central Asian team will not be easier for them.

But he believes that the boys will show their character in difficult situation what they showcased and won their semifinal match en route to the final.

“Though this is a last match, it will be hard. Turkmenistan is a very professional team. They play same as Russian players but we have nothing to fear. We’ve played against Kyrgyzstan. Like Uzbekistan, they were also better side because they know the game of volleyball very well. They are better in terms of skills, techniques and tactics,” said Ali Pour Aroji.

“Fortunately, Bangladesh have showed good performance and character at this moment. Now Bangladesh have final ahead that is important,” Aroji told media during the break of the Bangladesh team’s intense practice session in Mirpur yesterday.

“We’ve worked hard in the previous occasions. We showed our performance, skills and tactics. But the final is different. It’s not easy,” he added.

Citing the performance of the last match against Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh coach said that their boys have capability how to handle the opposition and play in the crunch moment of the game.

“It’s a volleyball game. You may lose two sets but you can control the match. Fortunately, we did the same thing in the last match,” he said, adding “This is important that our players won the match by two points. It’s a very good news for Bangladesh volleyball because they showed us they can control the match in difficult situation.”

Bangladesh captain Horosit Biswas echoed the same sentiment and said that they will be championed if they could perform in every department.

“If we could do well in serving, blocking and attacking we could be championed. We’ve done bad in first set against Nepal but we won the match. We did also well against Maldives. We’ve done better further against Kyrgyzstan in semifinal. Actually the graph of our experience has gradually been improved. Every senior and junior player in our team got to know how to play them to be champions,” Horosit Biswas said.

“We feel no pressure. We want to play a pressure less game. We wanted to win the semifinal we had done it. Hopefully we could do it in the final,” Biswas continued.

On the other hand, Turkmenistan captain Usmanbek Kalandarov expressed their optimism about winning the final against the home team and said that they have devised their game plan to tame the hosts.

“Bangladesh is very good team. Yesterday they beat Kyrgyzstan. We saw whole match and analyse it but our strategy, our plan, our purpose for coming in this game is to be champions. We’ll do our best to win and be champions,” Usmanbek Kalandarov said.

“Bangladesh have tall boys. Players are very good. But it’s not matter how tall they’re and how much skillful. We want to win the match. That’s why, we’re prepared for them. Inshallah, every thing will be done,” Usmanbek told the media.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan blanked Maldives by straight 3-0 sets (25-21, 25-16 and 25-20) to finish fifth in the Bangabandhu Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship 2018 at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
