Bangladesh Telecommuni-cations Company Limited (BTCL) has undertaken a set of measures for the protection of land phones in competition with mobile phones, reports BSS.
State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Begum Tarana Halim disclosed this in the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday while replying to a question from Haji Mohammad Selim.
She said that the BTCL is installing optical fibre under '290 upazila optical fibre network improvement project' aimed at materializing digital Bangladesh, adding, "Through the project the government would reach modern telecommunication services along with internet facilities to the door step of the people."
Tarana said the government is installing the Next Generation Network (NGN) and Internet Protocol Multimedia System (IMS) switches in the capital Dhaka to improve services of the land telephone, replacing Time Division Multiplexing system.
Besides, the government is also setting up optical fibre based telephone network access gateway to improve service quality of the land telephones, reducing dependency on copper cable, she said.
