Shajahan stresses joint efforts for land port development

Shipping Minister M Shajahan Khan yesterday urged the business community to work together and identify the troublemakers in trade and business to ensure the country’s smooth economic progress, reports UNB.
“Bangladesh is marching forward… you’re the soldiers of development movement. You come forward and identify those creating obstacles to development,” he said.
The shipping minister made the call while addressing a seminar, ‘Development of Land Ports and Land Customs Stations for Trade Facilitation’, at FBCCI Bhaban as the chief guest.
He said he will work on the recommendations made on resolving the problems in land ports and customs stations across the country and come up with solutions through discussions with relevant ministries.
“We’ll hold an inter-ministerial meeting with relevant ministries, including the Commerce Minister,” said the Shipping Minister.
Shajahan Khan said the government will work with the private sector for further development of the country’s land ports.
Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pankaj Saran, Chairman of the National Board of Revenue M Mujibur Rahman, NBR member M Farid Uddin, Bangladesh Land Ports Authority Chairman Tapan Kumar Chakrabarty, FBCCI first vice president M Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin and vice president Mahbubul Alam and stakeholders came from different parts of the country also spoke at the seminar.
Bangladesh Land Ports Authority director Muhammad Abul Kalam made a presentation on the seminar theme.
The speakers laid emphasis on the infrastructure development of land ports for smooth trade and commerce.
Mujibur Rahman said he will visit all the land ports and work together for the betterment of the country in line with the Vision 2021.
He also emphasised wider cooperation with neighbouring India. “You can change friend, but you can’t change neighbour. India is our good friend and neighbour.”
