A listed criminal was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with law enforcers in Shamserpara area under Chandgaon Police Station of Chittagong yesterday. The deceased was identified as Arman Ali alias Arman Hazari (30).
According to the police, Arman Hazari was accused of robbery and extortion in at least 23 cases and several warrants were issued for his arrest in a number of cases.
Arman was arrested from the city’s Panchlaish area early yesterday. As per his confessional statement, a team of police conducted a drive in Chanmia Residential area under Chandgaon in the city to arrest Arman’s accomplices.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Arman’s accomplices opened fire prompting the police to retaliate. As a result, a gunfight triggered that injured Arman and two of his associates on the spot.
The three were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where an on-duty doctor declared Arman dead. The police also seized three locally manufactured arms and several bullets from the spot.
