Day labourer beaten mercilessly
Our Correspondent, Naogaon
A day labourer was brutally assaulted allegedly by a moneyed man at Ganipur under Akkelpur of Joypurhat yesterday. The victim was identified as Saiful, 34.
According to witnesses, Khushbu Dewan, an employee of a private organisation and also a resident of the same area, asked Saiful to work at his house on Thursday. However, Saiful could not go to Dewan’s house on that day as he was already working at someone else’s house. This made Dewan angry and on Friday he again called Saiful to come to his house for work.
An unsuspecting Saiful went to Dewan’s house on Friday morning. Saiful was taken inside a room and was beaten black and blue for the failure to work at Dewan’s house on Thursday.
Hearing Saiful scream, local people came to his aid and rescued him. He was then taken to Akkelpur Thana Health Complex. Contacted, an on-duty doctor confirmed that Saiful had several injury marks on his body and that his spine sustained severe injuries. Md Mansoor, assistant sub-inspector of Akkelpur Police Station confirmed the incident and said it was not right on part of Dewan to beat Saiful as he is a very poor man. He probed the incident and will notify his superiors about it, the policeman added.
