Bangladesh has expressed its support to the efforts undertaken by Gulf and Arab countries to restore the peace and stability as well as to re-establish the legitimate government in Yemen.
Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali conveyed the support of Bangladesh for the military campaign led by Saudi Arabia in separate letters of condolences sent to his counterparts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain yesterday for the death of 45 UAE and five Bahraini soldiers during their fight against Houthi rebels in Yemen.
In the letters sent to UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Bahraini Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister Ali reaffirmed the government’s commitment to work together with Abu Dhabi and Manama, and the world community to work for peace and progress for the Muslim Ummah.
In the letters forwarded by the Foreign Ministry, the Foreign Minister expressed ‘his deep sadness and shock’ at the death of the soldiers and offered his condolences to the families of the bereaved.
Describing the soldiers as ‘martyrs’, he hoped that ‘the supreme sacrifices the martyrs made for the noble cause will be remembered for long in the Emirates and beyond’.
