Fire guts 10 shops, NGO office

OUR CORRESPONDENT, Tangail

Properties of 10 shops and an NGO office were gutted by devastating fire at Gala Bazaar in Tangail Sadar Upazila on Friday.
Kartik Chandra Paul, owner of Anamika Furniture, said the fire originated from a shop of battery-run auto-rickshaw charger. Soon it engulfed to the neighbouring shops. The shops included garments, cloth, furniture mart, TV and freeze repairing shops, grocery shops and an NGO office. Cloth trader Siraj Mia said he has lost the only means of livelihood.Majan Ali, secretary of ‘Gala Dokan Malik Samity’, said 10 shops have been gutted by fire. He demanded compensation from the government.
