Nazmul Hassan Papon-led Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made a giant leap of materialising the hope of Regional Cricket Association, something which no board could work out in the past.

The committee that was formed headed by BCB vice-president Mahbubul Anam has already finalised on how it would run and presented the matter before the BCB in the board meeting yesterday.

The BCB chief said that the committee was given 15 days time to submit their final proposal including a clause that every region should set up a regional academy in a bid to find out local talents.

“Currently our national academy bears exceptional load as the players from the different part coming here for quality training. That’s why we made it mandatory that every region should have one regional academy to take the load off the national academy,” Papon told the reporters after emerging out from the meeting.

“Work on regional committee is over now. We have discussed ins and outs and the committee was given 15 days time to submit the final proposal.  Hopefully we can start the activities to materilise it within a month.”

The BCB also took an important decision regarding the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) from the meeting. The board wants the sixth version of the BPL to be held from the first week of October and end on in mid-November, considering that Bangladesh national team will be busy in December for international commitment.

As the BPL governing council took the decision that every franchise can retain four players from their previous squad, the board approved it.

According to the new proposal of BPL governing council a franchise can retain four players from local and foreign category according to their wish.

“If they want that they can retain all four players from foreign category, there is no problem but no one can retain more than four players. Now it’s up to the franchisees that how many players from local and foreign category they will retain,” Papon said.

The BCB chief also said that from the coming season, every franchise can field four foreign players. The last year BPL governing council gave the franchisees an approval of fielding five foreign players which sparked huge criticism.

“The proposed date to start the BPL is October 5 and it will end on November 16. But we are trying to start it on October 1.”

The board decided that they would play T20 series against Afghanistan in Dehradun.

“Afghanistan wanted four-match T20 series but we said three. We have no problem with venue but we wanted to play in Mumbai or Delhi or some other place but all venues in June will be occupied. But the date of the series is yet to be confirmed.”

Papon said that Cricket Australia is yet to respond on the format of the game of Bangladesh’s tour in Australia.

“They didn’t want to play Test series because of the rainy season and broadcast problem on that month there. But we said that we will play any format of the game. However they are yet to respond on that.”
