Elderly man beaten dead

An elderly man was beaten to death by some people over a trifling matter at Humayun Rashid Chattar in city on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 55, son of Nurul Islam, a resident of Munshiganj district. Police said Nazrul had an altercation with a Sourav over a trifling matter. At one stage, Sourav along with some friends started beating Nazrul mercilessly, leaving him critically injured. Later he was rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where he died after hour long treatment. Md Rahmat Ulla, additional deputy police commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan police, confirmed the incident. Later police arrested Sourav.
