Chittagong: Chittagong district police in a series of drives on Thursday night detained 211 people, including five activists of Jamaat-e- Islami, in different upazilas of the district, reports BSS. Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists were picked up from Satkania and Lohagara upazilas for their alleged links with separate cases filed during the blockade, violence in January this year. In addition to upazila police, nearly 225 additional policemen were engaged in the drives that were conducted in different parts of the district including in the upazilas of Satkania, Lohagara, Sitakunda, Boalkhali, Patiya, Banskhali and Chandanaish. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of district special branch Naimul Hasan said the arrestees were accused in different sabotage cases. Besides Jamaat activists, 15 accused were arrested in regular cases and 188 others were accused in different cases and in the wanted list. They face charges in various cases filed over blockade and violence.
