RAJSHAHI: Implementation work of the "Upazila Freedom Fighters (FF) Complex Construction Project" is now on the final stage throughout the country successfully as recognition to supreme sacrifice of the great sons of the soil to the nation. Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has been implementing the three-year project since July 2012 with an estimated cost of around Taka 1,078 crore with a view to uphold the spirit of the Liberation War, educate the new generation and promote welfare activities of the freedom fighters. Project Director Engineer Mujibul Haque Somaji told BSS here that requisite physical infrastructures were developed for the Upazila level freedom fighters and their family members for the first time. In preliminary stage, a three-storey building on five-storey foundation was constructed at each of the 422 upazilas in all 64 districts in phases. Basically, the complex buildings were constructed on government vacant land. But the project had scope of land acquisition in limited scale. The initiative has been taken to inspire people with patriotism through highlighting the spirit of
the great War of Liberation. In all respects, the complex will supplement uplifting overall scenario of the Upazila towns coupled with elevating civic life. The present government has already taken worthy actions in order to ensure the welfare of the freedom fighters and involve them in various nation building activities. Although Muktijoddhas Sangsad Office exists in all upazilas, most of them have little or limited facilities with dilapidated condition. On the other hand at the upazila level currently no museum is available through which the new generation could have the opportunity to learn the true history of liberation war. Narrating the salient features of the complex Engineer Somaji said works on 422 complexes are on the final stage at present which is expected to complete by this yearend.
Each of the complex floors have 2,500 square-feet space and the first and second floors will be used commercially while the third floor as office of the Freedom Fighters Sangsad and conference hall. Apart from this, each of the buildings has solar panel and fire extinguishing equipments besides special arrangements for the war-injured and disabled freedom fighters. There is memorial plaque and mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in-front of the complex building that will help people to know about Bangabandhu and his heroic role to the nation's war of liberation. The project will supply necessary furniture and equipments for the FF Office and conference hall. In terms of necessity, there has been scope of constructing connecting roads, boundary wall and main gate. The venture will help institutional development through improving physical amenities for furthermore proper and smooth execution of Upazila Freedom Fighters Sangsad activities.
Through creating long-term income-generation privileges, the commercial floors will contribute a lot to do socio-economic welfare of the FFs and their family members which will be very helpful particularly for the distressed ones.
Fund will be created from income to be earned from the building for meeting up regular expenditure of FF Sangsad and requisite maintenance of the building. In addition to 29 housing schemes for the landless and distressed Freedom Fighters, 12 Upazila Freedom Fighters Complex buildings are being constructed. Constructions of 12 other Freedom Fighters Memorial Plaques are progressing fast in Rajshahi division, said Ali Ahmed, Superintending Engineer of LGED.
