Two workers killed in Rajshashi crane fall

Two workers were killed when a crane collapsed on them at a multi-storied under-construction building in Shah Makhdum area in Rajshahi yesterday. The deceased were identified as Mustazfiul Islam, 22, and Babu Mia, 35. The crane fell on them when they were working at the site of a technical training centre project around 10:00am, said Zillur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Shah Makhdum Police Station. Mostafizul died on the spot while Babu succumbed to his injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital around 11:30am, the OC added.

Necessary actions in accordance with law will be taken, the OC added.

Grenade made in 1964 recovered from pond

Police recovered an abandoned grenade from a pond in Kajolshah area of Rajshahi on Saturday afternoon.

The manufacturing year 1964 was embedded in the grenade's body.

A group of workers spotted the grenade while they were digging the government pond around 4pm and informed police, said Mohammad Abdul Wahab, additional commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.

On information, police recovered the grenade.

Youth arrested with yaba pills, heroin in Sylhet

Rapid Action Battalion members arrested a young man along with 2,420 yaba tablets and 58 grams heroin in Beanibazar upazila In Sylhet on Friday night.

The arrestee is Abdur Rahman Monu, 35, son of Mosabbir Ali of Fatehpur village in the upazila.

Senior assistant director of Rab-9 M Moniruzzaman said a team of the battalion conducted a drive at Fatehpur around 10pm and arrested Monu along with the contraband drugs. Later, he was handed over to police, the RAB officer said, claiming that the youth had long been involved in drug peddling.

Ex-MP Khurram passes away

Khandaker Md Khurram, former MP of Sherpur-3 constituency, died at a hospital in the capital due to old age complications on Saturday. He was 65.

MD Khurram, members of Awami League executive committee, breathed his last around 6:30am at Birdem Hospital. He left behind his wife, two daughters, one son and a host of relatives to mourn his death. He has been suffering from different old age complications including diabetic and heart related disease. On April 7, he was admitted to the Birdem Hospital. Born at Bhayadanga in Sribordi upazila, Khurram started his political career from Jasod.
