Pledge to build a non-communal, prosperous country

Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year-1425, was celebrated on Saturday in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Barishal and Rangpur cities and campuses with a festive mood and enthusiasm renewing a pledge to build a non-communal and prosperous Bangladesh  Braving heat weather, children, youths, men, women and activists of the socio-cultural, voluntary and professional organisations wearing traditional dresses came out on the streets after sunrise to welcome the Bengali New Year. Besides, hundreds of men, women and children, in traditional colourful clothes, thronged fair venues for celebrations new year.

Our Staff reporter adds from Barishal: District administration brought out Mangol Shobhajatra at 7:30 am from Barishal Circuit House ground and paraded main roads of the city. DC Barishal Md Habibur Rahman le dthe rally.

Udichi Barishal unit also organized  Mangol Shovajatra with ‘Rakhi Bandhan (friendship ties) ceremony from Brojo Mohun Bidyaloy (B M School) ground at 8:30 am and Barishal University at 8:00 AM on its campus on the same day.

BSS adds from Rajshahi: The programmes of the day were heralded in the city by inaugurating a colourful ‘Mongol Shobhajatra ‘ on Collegiate School premises. Rajshahi district administration arranged the well-decorated rally.

After parading some of the city streets, the rally was ended at the Riverview Collectorate School premises where a two-day "Boishakhi, Children Amusement Fair", cultural function and blood donation programme were opened.

Akhter Jahan, MP, Divisional Commissioner Noor-Ur-Rahman, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan, Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader and Superintendent of Police Md Shahidullah were present in the opening programme.

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) hosted a daylong celebration programme.

Mayor Mosaddeque Hossain Bulbul attended many of the programmes.

Cultural groups and different organisations including Sammilita Sangskritik Jote arranged various programmes like musical functions, colourful marches and street side Baishakhi fairs in the city.

BSS adds from Rangpur: The district and upazila towns wore cheerful looks as the common people irrespective of caste, creed and religion welcomed 'Pahela Boishakh' with a vow to nurture rich Bangalee culture and heritage.

The district administrations, different government, non-government, socio- cultural and business organisations, educational institutions, chalked out colourful programmes.

Tens of thousands of adolescents, youths, students, children, men, women and activists of different organisations, wearing traditional dresses, brought out 'Boishakhi' processions and 'Mangal Shobhayatra' to welcome the Bengali New Year.

In Rangpur city, the district administration, Rangpur City Corporation, Sommilito Sangskritik Jote, socio-cultural, business and other organisations and educational institutions welcomed 'Pahela Boishakh' through clourful programmes.

The celebrations simultaneously began with traditional 'Boishakhi' programmes of Shishu Academy and Shilpokola Academy at Banyan Tree premises in Zila School and 'Sommilito Sangskriti Jote' on Central Shaheed Minar premises in the morning.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa and Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hassan Ahmed simultaneously inaugurated the celebrations at Central Shaheed Minar and Banyan Tree premises in the city.

The district administration in association with dozens of the other organisations brought out the main 'Boishakhi' procession from Zila School ground and returned there again after parading the city streets to welcome the Bengali New Year-1425. Besides, the district unit of Sommilito Sangskriti Jote brought out the 'Mongal Shobhayatra' from the Public Library ground and retuned there after parading the main city streets.

Meanwhile, Different public and private universities also celebrated Pahela Baishakh yesterday with traditional festivities and much enthusiasm.

Jagannath University (JnU):  The celebration started through Mangal Shobhajatra, led by JnU Vice chancellor Prof Mijanur Rahman, from the university Shaheed Minar premises at 9am. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was the chief guest in the rally. Students, teachers, employees of more than 38 departments of the university took part in the procession. They paraded different streets of old Dhaka.

Jahangirnagar University:  Marking the day, a colorful procession led by JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam, was brought out from the Social Science Faculty in morning with colorful banners. It ended on the Business Studies Faculty premises after parading the whole campus. The Teacher-Student Center (TSC) of the university organised a three-day Baishakhi fair at the central cafeteria premises to celebrate the day.

RU and RUET: The universities chalked out several programmes including Baishakhi fair, concert and cultural functions at different venues on the campus. Different departments and institutes of the university also have taken separate programmes to celebrate the day.

RU vice chancellor Prof Dr M Absdus Sobhan exchanged greetings with the teachers, students and officials of the campus around 8am at his office.

Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU): The National Day Observance committee of BAU in Mymensingh brought out the Mangal Shobhajatra from in front of the Dhumketu club that ended at the baishakhi premises on the campus. After the rally, BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Ali Akbar inaugurated the year reception programme.  

Later, a cultural programme arranged by Shishu-Kishore Council, Mohila Sonho and Teachers’ Association was also held on the campus. Islamic University (IU): The university calked out a three-day programme on the campus in Kushtia marking the day on Saturday. Vice-Chancellor Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari inaugurated the programme

North South University (NSU):  The celebration began with a colorful rally, where students carried handmade multi-colored festoons, sculptures to welcome the Bengali New Year. A formal inauguration was held after the really where MA Kashem, Azim Uddin Ahmed, Members of the BOT, Prof GU Ahsan, Vice-Chancellor (IC), were present. A traditional fair was organized by NSU Sangskritik Sangathan.

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB): A procession was brought out marking the day on its permanent campus at Mohammadpur where ULAB Vice Chancellor Prof HM Jahirul Haque, Special Advisor to ULAB Board of Trustees Prof Imran Rahman; ULAB Emeritus Professor Rafiqul Islam; ULAB Registrar Prof Akhtar Ahmed attended.

ULAB Shangskriti Shangsad performed in the day long cultural programme.
