AFP, BERLIN: Mario Goetze admits he is running out of time to convince Joachim Loew he deserves a place in Germany’s World Cup squad despite scoring the goal that won the 2014 tournament.
Goetze is struggling for form, but hopes to feature for third-placed Borussia Dortmund in Sunday’s crunch Ruhr derby at Schalke, who are second in the Bundesliga.
The 25-year-old has only played two of Dortmund’s last four league games having also been left out of Germany’s draw with Spain and defeat to Brazil in last month’s international friendlies.
Just two months before the World Cup in Russia, the clock is ticking to secure a spot in the squad to be named on May 15.
“I know that the next five games are very important to me, but they are not alone in determining whether I go to Russia or not,” Goetze told German daily Bild.
