Bangladesh middle-order batsman Mominul Haque, the most consistent batsman of the side, feels no regret to not play in one-day coupled with T20 Internationals for the Bangladesh team.
Haque believes that he will get chance to automatically play in one-day and T20 internationals if he could perform Test exceptionally well.
The left-handed batsman started his international career with one-day international what he played against West Indies at home turf in November, 2012. At the same year, he debuted in T20 international against the same team. But he made his debut Test in 2013 against Sri Lanka.
Even though he starts his international career with one-day and T20, he isn’t considered for these formats of games at this moment. Since his stepping into international cricket, the 29-year-old batsman played so far 27 Tests along with 26 one-day internationals and six T20 Internationals.
“The question has been put forward on many occasions but my answer is still the same. Actually I don’t think in that way. It’s not even that I have to play one-day,” said Mominul Haque, whose strike rate in one-day or T20 (74.58 and 120) are better than Test (56.09) but his average is good in Test (46.82) than one day and T20 (23.60 and 20.00).
“If I play Test exceptionally well and could better my Test average what I had, I think, I’ll get chance automatically in one-day. I don’t feel any hurry for it,” Mominul told reporters yesterday at National Academy (NCA) ground after his personal practice session.
“I think if I could perform well in my main place, the team management thinks about me and that I could then play in other formats of games,” he added.
The diminutive batsman describes the rest of the games of the BCL as their good practice opportunity for the players ahead of their next full series against the West Indies in June, stating that he will try his best to play these games with Test temperament.
“Before going to tour to West Indies, the matches of the BCL will be the best practice opportunity for the players. I’ll try to play those with Test temperament,” Cox’s Bazar-born lad said.
“Now I’m focusing only on BCL games. After the end of the BCL, I’ll then think about the West Indies series,” he continued.
He viewed that all the games of the domestic circuit are important for the national team’s players what depends on the players how they take it. But he said that as he plays only Test so he’ll play all these games with rapt attention.
He thought that the next round tie of the BCL will be competitive from where the result will be come out.
“I think, the next round fixture of the BCL will be competitive especially the match which will be held in Mirpur to be more competitive and the result will be made from it,” he said.
“An excitement is working inside me because when the most of the national players play then the competitiveness among the players increased a lot. When the national players play, they then remain very much attentive in the game and other players take it seriously,” he added.
“Every player has wishes to play big innings along with making more scores in the tournament. I’ll attempt my utmost best to do it. As a team, what we see is that we have enough chance to be champion. We’re looking forward to that. Let’s see what happens,” Mominul told in response to a media query.
