Three railway guards hacked
Chuadanga: Three security guards including an Ansar member of Darshana International Railway Station were hacked to injuries by miscreants in the yard on Saturday night, reports UNB.
The injured were identified as Hafizur Rahman, 38, Abdur Razzak 50 and Sanjit Kumar Biswas, 35.
Sources at the railway station said a gang of miscreants numbering 7/8 attacked the on-duty security guards and hacked them indiscriminately leaving the trio critically injured. Being rescued, the injured were admitted to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.
As the condition of Hafizur and Razzak went critical, duty doctors at the hospital referred them to Dhaka.
Meanwhile, Darshana police in a drive detained five in connection with the attack.
BGB entertains BSF with sweetmeats on Pahela Baishakh
Panchagarh: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) entertained Border Security Force (BSF) members with sweetmeats here on Saturday on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year 1425, reports UNB.
Members of BGB Battalion-18 distributed sweetmeats among the BSF members of one frontier, two sectors, four battalions and 33 camps along different borders of the district.
Commanding officer of the BGB battalion Lt Col Al Hakim M Nawshad said they distribute sweetmeats on different occasions like Bangla New Year, eid, national days and Indian Independence Day to strengthen the relations between the border forces of the two countries. “Sweetmeats were distributed on the Pahela Baishakh as part of it,” he said.
Female students get bicycles on Pahela Baishakh
FARIDPUR: A.F Mujibur Rahaman Foundation, a charitable organization has given 15 bi-cycles to the school going female students in Gerda of the town encouraging the girls to attend school from long distance, reports BSS.
The bicycles have been gifted to the girls on Friday on the occasion of Pahela Boishakh.
Sayeeda Ruby Ghuznavi, the chairperson of the organization handed over the cycles among the girls. Member of School Managing Committee Lona Rahaman, headmaster of AF Mujibur Rahaman School Farhad Ghuznavi, among others, were present on the occasion.
Mahfuzul Alam, coordinator of the foundation said that the unprivileged girls of the school have been gifted the bi-cycles for encouraging the female education. Earlier we gifted 22 bicycles. It will be continued, he added.
Three hurt in gas cylinder blast
Faridpur: Three people including a balloon vendor were injured in a gas cylinder blast at Fairdpur Government Rajendrapur College campus here on Saturday morning, reports UNB.
The injured were identified as Azim Talukdar, 67, balloon vendor, his grandson Hridoy Sheikh, 16, and Shamrat, 10.
Quoting witnesses, police said a gas cylinder went off with a big bang around 7:30am when all the victims were sitting in the college campus just the moment before bringing out the Mangal Shobhajatra leaving them injured. The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
8 Jamaat-Shibir men arrested
Chapainawabganj: Detectives here on Saturday arrested eight activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir allegedly along with leaflets and books on militancy from a mess in Shahibagh area of Sadar upazila, reports UNB.
Additional Police Superintendent Mahbub Alam in a press briefing in the afternoon said acting on tip-off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted a drive at the mess in the early hours. During the drive, they arrested eight members of Jamaat-Shibir along with huge books on militancy, leaflets and fund collection registers, he said.
One killed in road accident

A young man was killed and eight others injured following a head on a collision between a bus and a human hauler on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Muljan area in sadar upazila yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Mintu Miah, 25, son of Mofidul Islam, resident of Ghior upazila.
Police said the collision took place around 8am when a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Southern Paribahan’ hit the human hauler (locally named as Leguna), leaving Mintu dead on the spot and eight other human hauler passengers injured.
