Bangladesh national football team is looking forward to demonstrate better performance in their upcoming matches capitalising on the experience of playing against the reigning Asian title holders.
Bangladesh team’s captain, captain, Mamunul Islam, goalkeeper Shahidul Alam Sohel, coach Saiful Bari Titu, Maud Pervej Kaiser youngster Aminur Rahman Sajib, while talking to The Independent yesterday at the hotel lobby in the capital said that all are highly boosted up with having the exposure playing against the high profile team like Australia.
Mamunul and Co. returned home in the early hours of Saturday after their historic match in Oceania region against Australia in their World Cup Qualifying round. Bangladesh conceded a 5-0 defeat in their away match, which was very much predictable result.
But captain Mamunul and Sohel Rana think that they were unhappy with the result as the goal margin would have been lesser.
“Nobody can be happy after conceding a defeat, but the reality – the difference between us and Australia we have to consider the fact. But I can say honestly we would be happy if we could reduce the margin of defeat,” said Mamunul.
“But I believe what we gained from this match, a lot, which will be obviously very helpful against the Jordan match.”
“It is a great experience for all of us, hopefully we will able to capitalise the learning of playing big opponents, who are thousands steps ahead of us.”
“We knew, there is huge difference between us and Australia in all respect, but playing against them we have a practical knowledge. If you compare with them we are almost zero, in all respects, their infrastructures, football culture, facilities, just we can’t imagine where they are.”
“I think we should also develop all our surroundings including the facilities, which are essential to be a big football nation,” Mamunul said.
“Anyway, Jordan is also a strong side, their difference with Australia is not very big, I think it would 18-20, so it would also be a big challenge for us. But I believe we will do better against Jordan at our ground.”
Sohel, who was definitely the best performer in the Bangladesh-Australia match also not happy with the result, as he echoed with the captain Mamunul saying that they would be happy, if they could reduce margin of defeat.
Sohel also said they had the opportunity to restrict Australia to 2-0 or maximum 3-0 but they did a bit mistake in their strategy.
Sohel said, “We had no option but to play with fully defensive strategy but if we could try to halt them some few meters away from the box, then it would be better for me to deny some of their attempts.”
“As almost all of our players defended just from on top of the box and some times from inside the box and it made big problem for me, I could not see clearly and some times I was on right direction but opponents shot deflected before going into the net.”
“We will try to do better against Jordan, as playing against Australia is big experience and we will be able to utilise the experience, we gained.”
