“The powerful story of the film will attract viewers”
Veteran actor Alamgir-directed Ekti Cinemar Gaulpo hits cinemas today across the country, including the capital city. Playing a lead role in the film, celebrated Indian actress Rituparna Sengupta has returned to Dhaka film industry after a long gap. The actress is very hopeful about the film and believes it be popular like her other earlier films released in Bangladesh.
DhakaLives Nazir Hossain reveals more about the film and related matters in an exclusive interview with Rituparna. Excerpts follow:
Why should the viewers watch Ekti Cinemar Gaulpo?
The film is based on a beautiful story, which I found very touching as well. I think the powerful story of the film will attract the viewers. So I request the viewers to come to the cinema halls to watch the film made with a wonderful story. I can say Ekti Cinemar Gaulpo is an extraordinary film.
What is your expectation of the film?
Im very excited with the film because a film of mine is going to be released in Bangladesh after a long time. I believe Ekti Cinemar Gaulpo would be a super-hit like my previous super-hit films such as Ranga Bou, Sagorika, Ami Sei Meye and Swami Keno Asami. In fact, I want to see the success of Ekti Cinemar Gaulpo surpass the popularity of all my previous hit films in Bangladesh.
Tell us about your experience of working with director Alamgir?
Its needless to say that he is a great actor as well as a great human being with a good heart. I have acted under his direction for the first time, and he took good care of me. I didnt have any problems during the shooting of the film, as his unit was really organised. Im really enthralled by his brilliant direction and I discovered that he is a great director.
Who are the prominent actors from Bangladesh you shared screen most?
I have many films with actor Ferdous, who is also a very close friend of mine. He is equally popular in both the countries. I also worked with late actor Manna and we had been family friends for a long time. He was a very positive man with a fighting spirit. I also have fond memories with Nayak Raj Razzak, Dildar, Humayun Faridi and Parveen Sultana Diti.
Over the years, you have become an idol or icon to many. Do you enjoy it and do you feel any pressure of being an example to others?
I always feel blessed to be an idol or icon. I think I am the fortunate one who received the direct blessing from god. Its a matter of pride for me that I could set an example for others. I feel awesome to learn that if anyone says that I could contribute even a little to society with my work. Yes, I feel pressure. Unless you feel any pressure on your shoulder, you cant deliver your best.
Whom would you call your inspiration?
I dont really follow anybody and I dont want to be like anyone. But I take inspiration from the life and career of many. For example, I find the famous Hollywood actress Meryl Streep is a very inspirational figure to me. She is a very favourite artiste of mine. I always wonder how beautifully she built her eventful career step by step. Even at this elderly age, she is unstoppable. l
