After a hiatus of six years, The National School Football Tournament 2018 will kick off from the first week of May. Organised by Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), the tournament is expected to host 60 to 62 teams from across the country and 56 schools have already made their registrations.
The tournaments preliminary phase will take place in eight zones across the country with the district champions in the seven divisional headquarters. The final round will be held in Dhaka with the zonal champions. The tournament is sponsored by Pran Milk Candy and Good Luck.
In a press meet, the chairman of the School Football committee, Bijon Barua said, “We think, we’ll have to go to grass roots to produce future footballers and the school football is that level where we can produce players. If the school tournament produces good players then the district will get players and ultimately we will get players for the top level or even for the national stage.”
Bijon, the former national goalkeeper also added that they will provide jersey, boot, ball and also participation fees to all the participants.
Abdus Salam Murshedi, senior vice-president of the BFF and the chairman of the Professional Football League said, “There is no option but to organise football competitions from the grassroots and that is the school level.”
Rajib Ibne Islam, GM Operation of Pran, the representative from the sponsor company, said that they are pleased to be a part of the BFF for the development of football and they are interested to be engaged with BFF for a long time.
Abu Nayeem Shohag, general secretary of the BFF said that the school tournament is one of their 12 projects they have for the development of football in the country.
