ACC arrests DoS chief engineer

A team of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday arrested the acting chief engineer of the Department of Shipping (DoS) for taking bribes at a city restaurant. SM Najmul Haq, acting chief engineer and ship surveyor at the department under the Ministry of Shipping, was detained from city’s Segun restaurant while taking bribes from a man. A team led by ACC Director Nasim Anwar caught him

during the raid with Tk five lakh. “We have arrested him while he was taking Tk 500,000 as bribes from an individual. Now we preparing to file a case against him,” Anwar told The Independent.

Najmul will be produced before the court tomorrow and later remand will be sought for further interrogation over the bribe taking issue, he said in reply to a query.
