Some unidentified men attacked the house of the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, and it seems to be the "work of professionals", said the Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The Commissioner, Asaduzzaman Mia, said this while briefing reporters at the DMP media centre about security measures for celebration of Pahela Baishakh. Replying to a question, he said: “The attackers destroyed CCTV footage and took away hard disk from the VC’s house. The way the attack was carried out, it seems that it was the work of professionals."
The police are looking into the incident, he said. "We will find the culprits and bring them to book. No one is above the law. Such people were not spared in the past and will not be |spared now.” On Wednesday, four cases were filed against a large number of unidentified people on charges of vandalism, arson and obstructing lawmen to perform their duty in Dhaka during the anti-quota protests. The Dhaka University authorities have lodged a case, and the Special Branch (SB) has filed another case.
The plaintiffs of the two other cases are Shahbagh police station sub-inspectors Bhajan Biswas and Rabiul Islam. They made allegations of blocking roads at two separate spots on the campus, and obstructing policemen from performing their duty.
