2 get life for keeping heroin
RAJSHAHI: A court here on Wednesday sentenced two persons to life term imprisonment for possessing heroin, reports BSS.
The convicts are identified as Mohir Uddin, 37, of Sorlapara village of Tanore Upazila and Rabiul Islam, 35, of Bhatopara village under the same upazila of the district.
Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Tribunal Judge Shirin Kabita Akhter found them guilty of the charges and pronounced the verdict. The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer two months more behind the bars.
According to the prosecution, a police team arrested Mohir Uddin and Rabiul Islam with 600 grams of heroin after searching a passenger bus in Sarmangla area under Godagari Upazila in the district on August 20, 2016. Later, a case was recorded with the concerned police station in this connection.
2 held with 10,000 yaba in city
Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested two suspected drug peddlers along with 10,000 pieces of contraband yaba tablets from the capital's Paltan area on Wednesday evening.
A cantonment zonal team of DB in a raid at Paltan arrested Wasimul Haque, 21, and Salma Akhter, 37, and seized 10,000 pieces of yaba tablets from their possessions, said an official release.
The arrestees used to bring yaba tablets from Cox's Bazar and sell those to different parts of the capital, he added. Legal action was taken against the detainees in this regard.
One held with fake currency
Police on Wednesday night arrested fake local currency and contraband yaba tablets from the capital's Khilgaon area. A squad of Khilgaon police arrested Billal alias Chapati Billal, 26, and seized fake currency of Tk 50,000 and 200 pieces of contraband yaba tablets from his possession from South Goran area around 10:05pm on Wednesday, an official release said.
Two separate cases were lodged against the arrestee in this regard. Police claimed that Billal was wanted in 10 criminal cases including extortion, and robbery.
Six snatchers arrested
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in separate raids arrested six snatchers from the capital's Rupnagar and its outskirts Savar on Wednesday afternoon.
"We arrested six persons from Rupnagar and Savar on Wednesday afternoon as they have long been involved in snatching in guise of passengers of private cars," said an official of RAB-1.
