KHULNA: A union parishad member was killed and four people, including two women, were injured in a factional clash of Awami League at Atalia village in Khulna on Monday morning, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Golam Maula, 50, a member of Terokhada Sadar union parishad and president of 5 No ward AL.
Salequzzaman, officer-in-charge of Terokhada Police Station, said there had been a longstanding dispute between Golam Maula and local Krishak League leader Zilu Miah.
Following the enmity, Zilu locked into an altercation with Golam Maula around 9am.
At one stage, supporters of the two groups locked into a fierce clash when a chase and counter chase took place, leaving five, including Maula, critically injured.
The injured were rushed to Terokhada Health Complex where Maula succumbed to his injuries around 10:30am.
Victim's son Khalid Sheikh claimed that Zilu Miah attacked his father and hacked him to death with a sharp weapon.
