In honour of the 11th World Autism Awareness Day 2018, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University's Institute of Pediatric Neurodisorder and Autism (IPNA) has organised a photography exhibition consisting of the special moods and moments of children with autism. This exhibition will run from April 4-7 2018 at the Bangladesh National Museum's Nalini Kanta Bhattasali Gallery.
The photography exhibition was inauguarated on April 4 at 5:30pm, with the honourable Minister of Cultural Affairs Asaduzzaman Noor MP as the chief guest, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University's (BSMMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Kanak Kanti Barua as the event chair.
Prof Dr Shaheen Akhter, Director of IPNA, Prof Dr Sharfuddin Ahmed, BSMMU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof Dr Shahidullah Shikdar, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development), SWACHIP president Prof Dr Iqbal Arsalan, photographer and cultural personality Shangkar Shaojal and others were also present at the event.
The honourable Minister of Cultural Affairs Asaduzzaman Noor spoke of his faith in the abilities of children with autism, saying that with the proper environment and care, these children will flourish like flowers and be important and useful members of our society. He also hoped that through this exhibition, audiences will be able to connect on a personal level with children with disabilities and view them through more humane lenses.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Kanak Kanti Barua paid his respects to the honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and internationally renowned autism expert Saima Wazed Hossain for their role in establishing IPNA. He added that BSMMU and IPNA will continue to reach out to and stand up for children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
In her speech, IPNA Director Prof Dr Shaheen Akhter spoke of the various events that IPNA has organised every year in honour of World Autism Awareness Day, and stressed of the importance of such events throughout the year to continue raising awareness on autism.
Parents, doctors, psychologists, therapists and teachers of children with autism from all over the country were present at the event.
After the speeches, the IPNA theme song and video was played for the audience, which was written by Shangkar Shaojal, composed by Bappa Mazumder and sung by Bappa Mazumder, Elita Karim and Konal.
The gallery was then opened for the audience to enjoy the exhibition.
