‘Bangabandhu dreamt to build non-communal Bangladesh’
MYMENSINGH: Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman yesterday said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had dreamt to build a non-communal Bangladesh, reports BSS.
“Secularism was included in the Constitution of Bangladesh in accordance with Bangabandhu’s intense desire” he told an inter-religious dialogue in the Tareque memorial Auditorium in the district. The Religious Affairs Ministry organized the dialogue.
Secretary of the Religious Affairs Md Anisur Rahman, Director General of Islamic Foundation Shamim Mohammad Afjal, president of Mymensingh district unit of Bangladesh Hindu-Bouddha-Christian Oikya Parishad Advocate Bikash Roy and officials of local administration, among others, addressed the dialogue with Divisional Commissioner GM Saleh Uddin in the chair.
Motiur urged the people of all faiths to extend their support to the efforts of the government to root out militancy and terrorism from the country.
“Islam is a religion of peace....Islam does not believe in militancy and terrorism.” he added.
Other speakers, called upon all to build the young generation as competent and liberal people imbued with the spirit of the war of liberation to build a non-communal and prosperous Bangladesh.
6.20 lakh yaba tablets seized
COX’S BAZAR: Bangladesh Coast Guard today recovered 6.20 lakh pieces of yaba tablets during a drive from the sea adjacent to the Saint Martin Island of Cox’s Bazar, reports BSS.
Lieutenant Commander Abdullah Al Maruf, Assistant Director (Detective) of Bangladesh Coast Guard said based on secret information, a Coast Guard patrol team conducted the drive in a fishing boat and recovered four sacks of yaba tablets.
Sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, the culprits fled the scene dumping the plastic sacks in the sea water. After searching the sacks, the Coast Guard members recovered 6.20 lakh pieces of yaba tablets, Lt Maruf said.
The seized yaba tablets were handed over to Teknaf Thana police for necessary legal action, he added.
Private clinic director held for violating nurse in Natore
Natore: Police arrested a director of a private hospital here on Saturday night on charges of blackmailing a nurse after filming a ‘rape’ incident, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Shafiul Alam Bablu, director of Al Sun Hospital at Boroharishpur area in the town.
Following the allegation of the victim, police arrested Bablu at night and seized the video, said Sikder Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Natore Sadar Police Station.
According to victim’s family members, hospital’s director Bablu recently called the nurse to his room and violated her and filmed the incident.
Later, he raped her several times threatening her to publish the video on internet. At one stage, the victim informed her family about the incident and filed a complaint with the police station, the OC added.
Accused fled from police custody held in Bagerhat
Bagerhat: Police arrested an accused young man from Babuana area in Kachua upazila on Saturday night who escaped from Chitalmari Upazila Health Complex while being treated in police custody on Thursday night, reports UNB.
Tanmay Mandal, 22, son of Balram Mondol of Khoromkhali village in Chitalmari upazila and an accused in six cases, was held from Khaserhat area along with 10 pieces of Yaba tablet and 50 grams of hemp on April 2, said Anukul Chandra, officer-in-charge of Chitalmari Police Station.
Later, he was admitted to the health complex as he suffered bullet injuries while trying to escape after being chased by police before his arrest. On Thursday, he ran away from the health complex pushing down two on-duty policemen.
After the incident, two policemen were suspended for negligence of their duty.
