At least nine people were killed in three separate road accidents on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway near Madhabdi and Baghata in Narsingdi upazila and Charpara in the Morzal area in Raipura upazila yesterday morning and afternoon. In the first accident, four persons including a motorcycle rider and his three friends were killed on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway near the Charabag area under the Morzal Union in Raipura Upazila, Narsingdi district, around 7 am yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Yamin, 23, and his three friends Ramzan Mia, 18, Dalim, 18, and Sohag, 19. All were residents of Morzal village under Raipura Upazila, in Narsingdi district. Witnesses and Bhairab Highway Police OC AKM Kawsar said that a Dhaka-bound bus of the Anyany Paribahan from Kishorganj reached Charabag area and collided head-on with the Morzal-bound motorcycle coming from Narsingdi. All four persons died on the spot.
Highway police rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies, and sent them to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Police seized the bus. In the other accident, three persons were killed near the Madhabdi bus station under the Narsingdi Sadar Upazila on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 1.30 pm.
The victims of the mishap were identified as Ratan, 44, of Mymensingh district, Mokbul Hossain, 35, of Birampur in Madhabdi, Narsingdi, and a rickshawpuller, Ilias Ali, 35.
Police and witnesses said a Habiganj-bound bus from Dhaka reached Madhabdi and hit a rickshaw from behind, killing one person on the spot, while two others died on the way to hospital. Madhabdi police recovered the bodies and sent them to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Police seized the bus.
In yet another road accident, a husband and wife were killed near Baghata under the Narsingdi Sadar Upazila on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 3.30 pm yesterday.
The victims were identified as Aminul Islam, 32, and his wife Mansura, 25, of the Bagbari area in Narsingdi Sadar Upazila. According to police and witnesses, a Dhaka-bound private car from Bhairab collided head-on with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, killing the couple on the spot.
