Bangladesh tasted an another disappointing outing in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast as fourth athletes in different disciplines were eliminated from the first round (hit) yesterday.
Ariful Islam, who won record eight gold medals in the first ever Youth Games, organsied by the Bangladesh Olympic Association, eliminated from the hit when he finished his 100 meters breaststroke with 1:07:51 minute.
Arif finished as seventh and among 29 swimmers in the hit he was 20th. Arif will participate in the 50 meters breaststroke tomorrow.
Nazma Khatun also ousted from the hit in the 50 meters freestyle when she clocked 31:10 second to be 37th of 40 swimmers in this event.
Bangladesh also took part in the weightlifting event yesterday when three lifters participated in different weight categories.
Shimul Kanti Singh of 69 Kg category frustrated all failing to lift 140 Kg in the Clean and Jerk after lifting 115 in the snatch. Women lifters Fulmati Chakma and Fahima Akhter also were eliminated from the first round.
Fulmati Chakma in 53 Kg category lifted 68 Kg and 85 Kg in the Clean and Jerk and finished as 12th out of 14 lifters in her category.
Fahima Akhter in her event 58 Kg lifted total 154 Kg with 66 Kg in snatch and 88 Kg in Clean and Jerk and placed 13th out of 15.
