Syed Ahya Bakth, a veteran freedom fighter and former news editor of the Daily Ittefaq, died of old-age complications at Singapore General Hospital at 11 am yesterday, reports BSS.
He was 75, family sources said. Bakth left behind his wife, two sons and a daughter and a host of relatives, colleagues and admirers to mourn his death.
It is expected that the body of Bakth will be brought to Dhaka today. Before joining the Daily Ittefaq, Bakth, a permanent member of National Press Club, also worked at the Daily Sangbad, the Daily Purbodesh and other media houses.
National Press Club President Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman and General Secretary Farida Yeasmin expressed profound shock at the death of Syed Ahya Bakth. In a condolence message, they prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
