Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday called for increasing participation of women in industrial production and management to achieve the country's development goals, Vision-2021 and Vision-2041.

"We will have to ensure economic empowerment of women. Bank and Financial Intuitions (FIS) are giving mortgage free loans to the women entrepreneurs as per the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," he said while speaking at a seminar on "Women Entrepreneur: Breaking the Barriers" at Lakeshore Hotel in the capital, a press statement said.

Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) and Women Entrepreneur Association of Bangladesh (WEAB) jointly organised the seminar.

Speaking as the chief guest, Amu said banks and FIs have changed their mindset as they are working for making a women entrepreneur friendly atmosphere in the country.

Bangladesh Bank and SME Foundation are providing soft loan facilities to the small and medium women entrepreneurs, he added.

Mentioning that about 80 percent workers in the country's garments industries are women, Amu said Bangladesh has earned second position for women employment in South Asia.

Nasreen Fatema Awal, president of WEAB, said over the past 20 years, WEAB has successfully helped thousands of enthusiastic entrepreneurs.

BSCIC Chairman Mustak Hasan M Iftekhar presided over the seminar while Additional Secretary of the Industries Ministry Enamul Haq , among others, spoke on the occasion.
