Quamrul put on 10-day remand

A court yesterday placed Quamrul Islam, the alleged lover of special public prosecutor Rathish Chandra Bhowmiks wife Snigdha Sarkar Dipa, on a 10-day remand over the murder of the lawyer, reports UNB.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Arifa Yesmin Mukta passed the order around 9:30pm after police produced him before her court seeking a remand for 10 days.
The court also recorded the confessional statements of Snigdha and her two students -- Sabuj and Rokonuzzaman -- under Section 164 of the penal code.
Besides, Rathishs assistant Madan Milon Mohant was shown arrested over the killing and sent to jail.
Special public prosecutor Rathish Chandra Bhowmik was found dead at Tajhat Mollahpara of the city early Wednesday, five days after he went missing.
Based on the information gleaned from his wife Snigdha Sarkar Dipa, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) recovered Rathishs body from under the ground at an under-construction building site around 2am.
Earlier on Tuesday night, the elite force picked up Snigdha, an assistant teacher of Tajhat High School, for interrogation over the missing of her husband.
Following her confessional statement, Rab recovered
the body of the lawyer from the under-construction
building of the brother of Snigdhas colleague Quamrul
Islam.
Earlier, the body of Rathish Chandra Bhowmik was recovered five days after he went missing from an abandoned building in the citys Tajhat Mollapara area, in the early hours of Wednesday. His brother Shushanta and other relatives identified the victim.
