Speakers at aseminar on World Autism Awareness Day in the capital yesterday stressed the need for empowering women and girls with autism, reports UNB.
Bangladesh Protibondi Foundation(BPF), Shishu Bikash Network (SBN) and UN Information Centre jointly arranged the event.
Executive Director of BPF Dr Shamim Ferdours, Principal of BPF Monira Yesmin, Principal of Kallani Inclusive School Md Jahangir Hossain, Officer of SBN Ferdousi Moula and National Information Officer of UNIC Dhaka spoke at the seminar. In his speech, UNIC NIO focused on the role and activities of United Nations in relation to autism referring UN Declaration on the Rights of Disabled Persons.
Dr Shamim urged all stakeholders to come forward in empowering women and girls with autism. UN Secretary-General's Message (Bangla) on the Day was readout and distributed among all the participants. A cultural programme was performed by children including those with autism. The participants were provided with UN publications and promotional materials.
