German Ambassador to Bangladesh Thomas Prinz yesterday said the opposition party in Bangladesh is very weak at the moment.
A strong and independent media is needed here now to ensure democratic practice, said the German ambassador during the launching of the Deutche Well (DW) News at a city hotel.
Prinz also asked for better protection of bloggers in Bangladesh. “Beside traditional media, the presence of social media and blog is very strong here. The government needs to ensure protection of the bloggers and the freedom of expression”, he said.
The German ambassador also said the DW News will provide impartial and in depth views of the local as well as international news.
DW, Germany’s international broadcaster underlines its dedication to serving television audiences in Southeast Asia by launching this new channel in Dhaka. It will broadcast 24 hours of continuous news coverage in English.
