Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury yesterday declared Tangail-4 constituency vacant as sacked minister Abdul Latif Siddique tendered his resignation, reports UNB.
The parliamentary seat fell vacant from September 1 afternoon when the Speaker accepted the resignation, she said.
The Speaker said Abdul Latif Siddique, who was elected MP from Tangail-4, tendered his resignation letter to her in person in Parliament on September 1 afternoon.
“I accepted the resignation. As per 67 (2) of the Constitution, a seat shall become vacant when the resignation is received by the Speaker. So, his seat fell vacant on September 1 afternoon,” she said.
Dr Shirin said she informed this to the House as per the section 178 (3) of the Rules of Procedure.
On Tuesday, Abdul Latif handed over his resignation letter to Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury after delivering a 20-minute emotion-choked speech in the House.
In his written speech, he claimed himself a ‘Muslim, ‘Bangalee’ and ‘Awami Leaguer’ and sought pardon from the country’s people, if they were hurt by his behaviour.
