Two killed in road accident
Two passengers of an auto-rickshaw were killed and its driver injured when a passenger bus hit the vehicle in the capital’s Kakrail crossing early yesterday. The victims were as Asif, 25, and Rubel 28. The injured driver was known as Firoz. Police sources said the incident took place when a bus of ‘Econo Paribahan’ hit the CNG-run auto-rickshaw near Kakrail crossing around 3:45 am. Being informed, a team of Ramna thana police went to the spot and rushed them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where on-duty doctors pronounced them dead at around 3:40 am, said Inspector Muzammel, in-charge of DMCH police camp. The body was kept in the morgue of the hospital for post mortem.
786 bottles of phensidyl seized
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 786 bottles of Indian phensidyl syrup from Muktarpur Padmarchar area of Rajshahi district on Wednesday afternoon. Being tipped off, a team of BGB battalion-37 conducted a drive in the area around 5pm, said H Kamrul Hasan, additional commanding officer of BGB-37 battalion. Sensing the presence of BGB members, the smugglers fled the scene. Later, they seized 786 bottles of phensidyl from a wooden boat. They also seized the boat.
Air chief returns home
Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Abu Esrar returned home on Tuesday after a six-day official visit to Russia. During his visit, he attended Air Show MAKS-2015, met with high officials of Federal Service for Military Technical Co-operation and discussed various bilateral issues. Besides these he also inspected different activities of Arms export agency ROSOBORONEXPORT, Aviation Corporation IRKUT and different Aviation Industries and discussed different bilateral issues.
Gadgets distributed
Senior officials of University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh have received MediaPad (Tab) at a ceremony held at UGC auditorium in the capital yesterday, says a press release. UGC Chairman Abdul Mannan distributed the Tab among the officers as chief guest. UGC Members---Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, Md Akhtar Hossain and Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah were present on the occasion. A total of 22 senior officials of UGC, holding the posts of deputy secretary, joint secretary and its equivalent officials, recieved MediaPad in the ceremony UGC chairman, in his speech stressed the need for proper use of MediaPad to expedite the dynamism of work in the instituions.
