Bangladesh reach final 9 events

Bangladesh archers maintained a good all-round show as they will appear in final of nine out of ten events of the 3rd South Asian Archery Championship today at BKSP ground.

The men’s recurve individual event will be a all Bangladeshi final when Md Ruman Sana will face his compatriot Md Ibrahim in the final. Nasreen Akhtar of Bangladesh will face a stiff hurdle in the women’s recurve individual final when she will tackle Himani of India for the gold medal fight.

India and Bangladesh will fight in all three –recurve, compound and mixed- team events.

Two Indian will battle in the final of men’s individual compound event with Venkatadri taking on Harash Parsar in the final. Similarly two local girls,  Susmita Bonik and Rokshana will battle in the final of women’s singles compound event.

Meanwhile Bangladesh earned six bronze medals yesterday. Men’s recurve team defeated Sri Lanka by 5-4 sets in the battle of two defeated semifinalists.

The next bronze medal went to Sri Lanka in the women’s recurve team event when they defeated Nepal by 6-2 sets. Nepal earned their first bronze of the day in the  recurve mixed team event beating Sri Lanka by 5-4 sets.

Nepal also got bronze in the men’s team  beating Sri Lanka 208-157 while Sri Lanka also won the mixed compound bronze medal.

Bangladesh  blanked Nepal 6-0 in the semifinal of men’s recurve team event, Bangladesh women’s recurve team outplayed Nepal; also by an identical margin. And in the mixed team event Bangladesh defeated Nepal by 6-2 sets I the semifinal as India got bye. India edged past Nepal 224-204 I the semifinal of  compound team event, while Bangladesh downed Sri Lanka 224-165 in the other semifinal.

State minister for youth and sports Biren Sikder will distribute prizes today as chief guest at 3pm.
